Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages all scientific instrumentation and operations at the laboratory
  • Manages method development and validation for analytical instrumentation
  • Responsible for instrument calibration and quality controls
  • Oversee all scientific personnel training and professional development
  • Monitor sample preparation techniques and training procedures
  • Adheres to strict standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory personnel are competent in performing assigned tasks and handling of instrumentation
  • Ensure that all data generated by the scientific team meet quality control requirements
  • Adhere to regulatory compliance with California's Bureau of Cannabis Control laboratory regulations
  • Review, compile and submit scientific data to clients and regulatory bodies
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 17025 accreditation, GLP and ongoing improvement of quality management system
  • Adhere to established turn-around times
  • Identify and implement new technologies and methodologies to improve laboratory workflow and data quality
  • Implement appropriate planning for growth and for technology upgrades and transitions
  • Assists in overall upkeep and maintenance of the laboratory
  • Ability to operate and maintain analytical instrumentation including, but not limited to HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-MS for Shimadzu software

Preferred Skills and Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age and possess either:
  • • A doctoral degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university PREFERRED
  • • A master’s degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university, plus at least 2 years of full-time practical experience
  • • A bachelor’s degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university, plus at least 4 years of full-time practical experience
  • Exceptional wet laboratory technique and ability to perform documentation for ISO standards
  • At least 5 years of experience in a regulated or high throughput laboratory environment
  • Working knowledge of microbiology methods for the analysis of environmental, agricultural and food samples, including AOAC, FDA, BAM, ISO. Experience with PCR or ELISA and sterile technique is beneficial
